Lessons from Mary: Embracing Faith, Humility, and Strength This Holiday Season
As December unfolds, it’s tempting to dive into gift guides and product picks to prepare for the holidays. But this year, I’m choosing to focus on something deeper: Mary. Her life offers profound lessons that resonate far beyond the nativity story, inspiring us as women and mothers to reflect on faith, humility, and strength during this season of celebration.
Moving to the country was a deliberate choice for our family. We wanted to slow down, simplify, and create more meaningful moments. And while we’ve succeeded in underwhelming our schedules, the year still seemed to fly by. It’s a reminder that busyness isn’t just external—it’s also in our hearts and minds. So, as I step into this season, I’m turning my focus to what’s good, pure, and admirable, as Philippians 4:8-9 encourages us to do. And today, that means reflecting on Mary.
Her life offers timeless wisdom, reminding us of the profound influence women and mothers have in shaping lives, nurturing faith, and fostering love in their families and communities.
What I’m Learning from Mary in This Season of Life
Faith in Uncertainty
Mary’s faith is awe-inspiring. From the angel Gabriel’s unexpected announcement to the challenges of raising Jesus, she trusted God’s plan even when the path was unclear. She didn’t have all the answers, but she embraced her calling with unwavering faith.
In the holiday season, her story is a reminder to embrace uncertainty with trust. Whether we’re navigating motherhood, work, or personal challenges, Mary’s example shows us that our journeys have meaning, even when they feel overwhelming. Trusting in a greater purpose can bring peace amidst the unknown.
Humility and Service
Mary’s humility shines throughout her life. She didn’t seek recognition or praise; instead, she served her family and her God with quiet grace. From accepting her role in Jesus’s birth to standing by Him in pivotal moments, she demonstrated a life rooted in love and care for others.
During the holidays, it’s easy to get caught up in the outward displays of celebration. But Mary’s example encourages us to focus on serving with love and humility. Whether it’s through a kind word, a helping hand, or a selfless act, we can bring light and joy to our families and communities in meaningful ways.
Strength and Resilience
Mary’s strength was remarkable. She faced societal judgment, the struggles of motherhood, and the ultimate heartbreak of witnessing her Son’s crucifixion. Yet she endured with grace and dignity, trusting in God’s plan through it all.
Her resilience reminds us that strength doesn’t mean avoiding hardship but facing it with courage. As we celebrate this season, let’s draw strength from our faith, cherish the joyful moments, and persevere through challenges with hope and grace.
